Eiteljorg Museum Plans Scottish Exhibition
One of the interesting conversations that came out of the SLA visit in May was a connection to an upcoming exhibition at the Eiteljorg Museum of Native American Art in Indianapolis. In August 2023, the museum will feature the works of Alfred Jacob Miller – a Scottish landscape artist who sketched and painted scenes of the American West on behalf of his patron, Sir William Drummond Stewart. Originally displayed in Murthly Castle in Perthshire, Scotland, the collection has been reassembled and will be displayed as it would have appeared to Sir Stewart. The paintings show details of the Rendezvous – an important trading event for Native Americans, trappers, traders, and inhabitants of the American West in the 1800s. For more information on the exhibit or if you might have an interest in becoming a corporate sponsor, please learn more. IHIF and SLA are excited to help support this fascinating cultural connection!
